Directions, Airfares, Accommodations
Da Nang is a coastal city in central Vietnam known for its beautiful sandy beaches. It is a popular tourist destination.
Access to Da Nang:
Da Nang is in the middle of Vietnam, 600 km north of Hochiminh (former Saigon), and 600km south of Hanoi. Da Nang international airport (code DAD) has direct flights to Ha Noi, Hochiminh, many airports in Southeast Asia, Korea, China, and Japan. The airport is in the city, and is about 5 km from the conference venue.
You might want to stay for a few days in Hochiminh or Hanoi to explore the areas. A one way ticket from Hochiminh to Da Nang is around 50 USD on low-cost airlines like Vietjet or Jetstar Pacific.
Airfare tickets should be purchased early, since (inexpensive) tickets run out fast. It is important for US participants receiving travel support from the NSF grant to purchase tickets under a US carrier for flights from the US to one of the international airports in Vietnam.
Citizens of many European countries, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, do not require a visa to visit Vietnam for 15 days, see the Vietnam Visa Policy. Please double check with the nearest Vietnamese consulate.
If a visa is needed, apply for a tourist visa online here. The process is very simple, costing only 25 USD. Your application will be processed in 3 working days. You don't have to send in your passport. Of course you can always apply for a visa at your nearest Vietnamese consulate.
The conference will be held at Serene Hotel, a 4 star hotel located right in front of the famous My Khe beach. Rooms at Serene starts at 55 USD/nigh (including breakfast). There are more than 50 hotels, from cheap 1 star hotels to luxury 5 star hotels, all within a 5-minute walk to the conference venue. Hotel booking online at popular travel websites like Agoda.com, Expedia, hotels.com, Orbitz, Kayak, is usually cheaper than booking directly from the hotel websites. Nearby Airbnb rooms/apartments are abundant.
